HERE IN AFTER IS A CONVENTIONAL FAQ ABOUT FARM STUDIO INTERNATIONAL ARTIST RESIDENCIES.

Artists creating in any media are welcome to apply: dance, theatre, music, sound, performance art, writing, painting, drawing, printmaking, textiles, culinary, photography, video/film, animation, architecture, sculpture (any material), ceramics, mixed-media / multi-media, interdisciplinary, installation, and other new/alternative media.
Open to emerging and established artists.
Researchers, curators, and art critics are also welcome to apply.

Farm Studio hosts an international artist residency that accepts applicants from India and from all over the world.

As an independent residency, Farm Studio is currently unable to provide any funding or stipends for travel to the residency program.
Artists are encouraged to apply for funding from their own cultural agencies. Funding and sponsorship will be acknowledged in Farm Studio publicity including online and print materials, posters, catalogues, etc.
Farm Studio in collaboration with Art investors in India do sponsor several artists per year to have a free stay and artist residency at Farm Studio. See the News page for a list of the sponsored artists.

The deadline is set according to the schedule each year (please see website for current and future session details).

Deadline applications are posted on the website and are according to the residency session.

The length of one residency session is approximately one month.

Farm Studio residency can currently house approximately 6 to 12 resident artists per month.
A panel of professional’s review submissions with decisions based on the quality of the proposal, support materials submitted, and ability to interact positively with the community at large. All artists will be informed by email shortly after this review or according to the date posted on the website.
As a non-profit organization we cannot provide visas, but if an artist needs any information to apply for a visa to come to Odisha, we can provide a letter of invitation. Most countries do require a visa to visit India but Visa requirements differ from country to country. Many artists opt for a 30- to 60-day visa.

Accommodation, meals and studio access is included in the residency fee.
Local bus/train station pick-up and sightseeing is also included, but artists must arrange and/or pay for transportation which exceeds 30-35 km.

Once accepted, artists receive an official invitation letter and email, and a request to pay a non-refundable deposit. The remaining residency fee is collected upon arrival at Farm Studio.
Once the deposit has been received, artists will be email a Residency Information Package with more information.

Once Farm Studio has received confirmation from all artists who have been selected, those artists’ profiles will be posted online.
Diverse artists working in a wide variety of artistic fields attend Farm Studio residencies at the same time. For example, during one session, resident artists might include a sculptor, painter, dancer and writer, etc.

Farm Studio staff members prepare traditional Indian pure vegetarian meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner).Our best cooks willprepareOdishancontinental food for lunch and dinners.Non-vegetarian meals will be cooked on weekends.
Pets are not allowed to stay at the artist residency. Friends or family are welcome to visit the Farm Studio for 1500/Indian rupees,$25 USD each, per day for short stays.
Farm Studio residency accepts and encourages artists to apply for collaborative projects. Applicable fee is per person.
Getting insurance is up to the artists’ discretion, but travel and health insurance is highly recommended. Artists may opt for insurance to cover any possible accident, loss or damage (including but not limited to health insurance and general liability insurance) during their stay.
All studio buildings connected to the Farm Studio residency are smoke-free, but smoking in the outdoor and surrounding areas is permitted.

Farm Studio offers many possibilities to step away from one’s artwork for a few hours or for a day. Located just 50 meters from the studio are walking trails that follow the desert and mountain. Kasida Village is at 5 minutes’ walk (200 meter approx.).
Farm Studio staff members can also organize half-day to full-day excursions to interesting cultural locations.

The Farm Studio provides wireless internet access in and around the studio.

In July andAugust, weather is variable, just preceding the monsoon. November temperatures are considered better than October, and during winter (Nov -Dec-Jan-Feb.) day time temperatures are between 15-30 degree Celsius. During these months there are no possibilities of rainfall, and there are no mosquitoes. When applying, consider that it might take a little time to adjust to the environment, particularly if you are new to Odisha.
Artists stay in our best class studios which are provided. Each room has a king size bed and plenty of bedding for all weather conditions.

Please note that Farm Studio is an open environment. Sights and sounds of animals; particularly birds, dogs, cows, goats, etc. are present. As well as the local Odia and Bengali people may surround, people of many nationalities attend Farm Studio so many languages are spoken. Though extremely tranquil, life abounds! Artists can expect to meet neighboring farmers, bricks factory workers and children, tractors, animals, insects, and other visitors during their time at Farm Studio.
Directly surrounding Farm Studio are fields and farming families. Some of the crops which are grown are: wheat, corn,mustard, rice grains, and vegetables. Many shepherds bring their, cows, goats, to graze in fields adjacent to Farm Studio.
Also accessible are walking trails into the vegetable farms kilometers long which are near to river and can fasten together to catch fish with the fishermen.
